Street Style Icon

With last week being New York’s Fashion Week, I spent some time sifting through news and photos from the fashion highlights of the week.  While I was creating a little Mamie Fashion Report for Style Me Mamie, I decided to hold off on my little report and focus on fashion now.  Fashion Week focused on Fall 2011 fashion and lets be real…we’re not going to pretend that you are interested in Fall 2011 fashion because in reality, we are just trying to make it to Spring at this point.  And while many beautiful gowns graced the runway (see photo below), I don’t think that many of us are thinking….should I wear my Monique Llullier gown or my Badgley Mischka one out this weekend?

While this may be your concern, we are going to assume that most of you are not worried about this.  So I decided that I would skip over the recent fashion week’s highlights and bring my fashion report down to our level a bit more.  And while Amy and I are looking to Fall fashion, most consumers are not.  So, this is for you, our Mamie customers.  Here is our Spring and Summer fashion report.

We are going to see a mixture of decades this Spring.  Everything from 60′s Ladylike, a chic version of 70′s boho, and a hint of 90′s punk rock (bomber jackets, studded clothing, exposed zippers).  Trends include chambray skirts and shirts, croquet and lace clothing, stripes (yes they’re still in ladies), jumpsuits and rompers (yes, rompers are working it again ladies), bold colors, swinging silhouettes, and pattern play are just a few of the runway to reality trends you will see in the upcoming months.  Check out the pics below to see the translation of these trends.  Of course, we are on it, trying to bring our best of Spring and Summer 2011 fashion pieces to you at crazy affordable prices.  So keep your eyes peeled for our awesome Shopmamie items updated weekly.

Lace. Lace. Lace.  We love Lace!

60′s LadyLike- swinging silhouettes from A-line and beyond.  You gotta love a-line.

Nautical and Stripes- yep, still work those stripes because they are here to stay!  And I’m not just saying this because I’m a Delta Gamma (salute to all my DG sisters).

70′s Boho Chic is still in, but with sophistication and glam added to it.

Have trouble getting dressed for those casual, rush-around, leisurely days?  It sounds funny, but sometimes I think the hardest time getting dressed is when you just want to throw on an everyday, casual outfit, but still look chic, and not like a slob!  You know? For those, run out for a coffee date, grocery store, errand-running kind of days; or for the Mothers who are rushing out the door to drop off the kids to school and for those College girls running off to class.  I think this task becomes more difficult when the weather turns chilly and you have to layer it up!  Well, Shopmamie is here to help!  Here are some of our favorite cozy-chic pieces that you should scoop up now to score that easy, but stylish look. xoxo Mamie

Pair this adorable wrap with leggings or jeans, a tank underneath, and flats or cozy boots. You will run out the door looking stylish!

I am personally obsessed with this Perfectly Polished Turtleneck. Looks plain? It is nothing BUT! You can wear this everyday with leggings or jeans or out on the town with a belt cinched at the waist, skinnies, & booties! It is a wardrobe essential for sure!

Everyone is LOVING the Fireside Fleece! A perfect run-out-of-the-house item! We are loving the tush-covering length of this item and it is incredibly cozy comfy!

This puff short-sleeve sweater makes looking chic super easy! Style it with jeans and you are ready to go. The sleeves give any outfit a stylish look. For those chilly days, wear a long-sleeve sweater under or a cardigan over.

We didn’t even watch the VMA’s last night, but we always love to take a sneak peek at the red (or white!) carpet fashion, and to re-cap the crazy outfits the next morning.  It is definitely the award show with the shortest hemlines, plunging necklines, and the craziest fashion.  We decided to rate some of the featured outfits, so Amy and I placed our votes with 5 being the best dressed and 0 being the worst dressed.  We had a lot of fun this morning doing this!  It’s horrible to be so critical, but how can you not with some of these outfits! See below each picture for our rating and comments.

Sammi "Sweetheart" gets a 3 for looking very pretty, however, the Jerz is still shining through with the outfit!

Bethenny get a 5 for looking classy, fun, and age appropriate!

Audrina Patridge gets a 5! Love the glam and bling of this dress!

Katy Perry gets a Mamie 1. A lot of people we're loving this, but you are just too "blades of glory" for us.

Sorry Ke$ha! Your home depot trash bag dress gets a 0. A major DON'T!

Snooki is looking SUPER Jersey Shore in this number. Sorry snooks, you get a 0 as well!

We LOVE Twilight's Ashley Green's dress! Lower the hemline a couple inches and she would score a 5. Ashley gets a 4!

Like the dress, hate the fit of it and the hair! Dancer, Karina Smirnoff, gets a 3!

Lo is looking very stylish, but there is something about the dress that we don't LOVE- maybe it needs a little bit toning down, either with the glitz or the 80's vibe. Lo scores a 3.

Meg and I always have our eyes peeled for ladies with great style for the “Street Style Icon” feature on our blog.  We look for women showcasing their own, unique style and sharing themselves through their wardrobe.  We believe fashion is an expression of yourself, and what better canvas to have, than your everyday style!

Last week, while in DC for your dual show day, we met Alli Bush, and instantly fell in love with her outfit.  Come to find out, Alli is a fellow fashion blogger herself (touches our hearts a little bit).

Alli’s style was simple, yet refined.  She was wearing a bright, orange shirt dress, and paired it with blue tights and a great pair of boots!  The opposite colors worked so well together, her outfit really popped!  Alli has a huge love for fashion and the fashion industry, and Meg and I thought in unison “street style icon!”  We asked, and she was flabbergasted!  (We unfortunately didn’t have our usual camera, but had a small digital on us – excuse the picture quality.)  Thanks Alli, for being our Street Style Icon – DC!
